What it does. Scrub NASA Worldview / GIBS imagery over a box. Daily MODIS and VIIRS, HLS Landsat 30 m, and the Landsat WELD years GIBS actually has. Your browser reads the public tile service itself. NASA sees which tiles you asked for. My server sees nothing, because there is not one.
WELD is not 1984–2011. GIBS only has nine annual mosaics, dated 1 December: 1983–85, 1988–90, 1998–2000. Pick that layer and the scrubber walks those dates, not empty Junes. The desktop tool also hunts ±1 month around each anniversary for a clearer HLS 30 m scene.
Search. One box for a street, a city, decimal degrees
(36.17, -115.14), degrees-minutes-seconds, or an MGRS grid,
spaced or compact. A US street goes to the Census geocoder. If the
browser cannot read that response, OpenStreetMap Nominatim answers from
the same TIGER streets. Other places use Photon. The Starbase, Garden
City, and Norfolk pins stay.
Yearly film. Export writes a short movie of this view: one true-colour frame per year for the day on the scrubber, back to the first year GIBS has that layer, or the nine WELD dates when that layer is selected. Years with no tiles are skipped, not invented. The picture stays at most 720 px on the long side and at most 48 frames. The link says MP4, or WebM when this browser cannot write MP4.
Browser preview of Worldview Timeline. Tiles come from
gibs.earthdata.nasa.gov — a public NASA service, no account.
Place search uses the US Census geocoder when the browser can read it,
otherwise OpenStreetMap (Nominatim for US streets, Photon for other places).
The Sentinel-2 change tool is a different page.
